LAANC is Coming Soon to an Airport Near You

Ayear ago, much of the aviation industry was still in the dark about LAANC.Today, it's helping lav the foundation for Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM). Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) is an FAA initiative to automate the authorization process for Part 107 (Small UAS rule) and Part 101c (Special Rule for Model Aircraft) operators, as well as notify air traffic controllers of planned operations within five miles of an airport. Last spring, the FAA released the first set of UAS facility maps for 268 airports nationwide, covering over 40,000 square miles.'" The facility maps outline safe altitudes for HAS flight and distances around controlled airports.
