Doing More With Less: General Aviation doing its part to make the FAA efficient

At a time when the government is seeking to rein in a burgeoning federal deficit, with major budget cuts proposed for the FAA and most other federal agencies in FY 2006, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is working closely with the FAA to help. Even as we promote WAAS approaches, we are assisting in the elimination of NDB approaches no longer necessary. We support contract towers, and are not standing in the way as the FAA leaves certain towers unstaffed during overnight hours when there is no traffic. Most importantly we took part in the A-76 study to outsource Flight Service, the government-run pre- and in-flight weather service—a contract that will save the government more than $2-billion over ten years.
