摘要

As the diversity and density of airspace operations continue to increase, there are many technological advances that airspace operations could leverage to ensure readiness to enable future operations. Future airspace operations must be secure, safe, scalable, accessible, affordable, resilient, and responsive. A number of areas, such as new flight rules, separation, weather impacted operations, roles, responsibilities, and architecture will need to be researched to define our future system's requirements. NASA, FAA, and industry are working together and have extensive plans to conduct research, development, and testing to enable the future airspace system through analysis, simulations, and flight tests. Last year, ATCA began its Blue Skies Initiative (BSI), which is an industry-government collaborative effort to deliver a future-ready framework for modernizing the US NAS. Given the time it takes to conduct research, develop requirements, and opera-tionalize new system procedures, we must accelerate our research efforts to ensure that the future airspace system will be ready when the new aircraft are ready.
