Speech communication is the most natural modality we can use to share our ideas, experiences, and knowledge. The more effectively we communicate, the more deeply we understand other people and their situations, forge social trust, and create opportunities to leverage our problem-solving capabilities. My work focuses on replicating human communication behaviors and functions in a machine to enhance human-human and human-machine communication. I have been working on speech- and language-related research for nearly 20 years. I am currently a research associate professor at NAIST and a research scientist at RIKEN AIP. Specifically, I manage the Speech Processing (SP) Group in NAIST's Augmented Human Communication (AHC) Labs. My research interests include automatic speech recognition (ASR), text-to-speech synthesis (TTS), speech-to-speech translation (S2ST), affective dialog systems, and cognitive communication.
