Patient Reported Experience Following Ambulatory Procedures of the Nervous System

Outpatient surgery is gaining an increasing role in attempts to curb hospital costs and discharge patients sooner. An estimated 17.2 million hospital visits included invasive therapeutic surgeries in 2014, of which 57.8% occurred in hospital-owned ambulatory surgery settings.~1 Medicare-certified hospital outpatient surgery departments and ambulatory surgery centers recently began administering the Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (OAS-CAHPS),~2 with public reporting mandatory in 2020.~3 Accordingly, we sought to identify key drivers of patient experience with ambulatory surgery care in patients who underwent nervous system procedures in an academic, tertiary center with the aim of identifying targets for quality improvement (QI).
