Alcohol ingestion an induce hyperuricemia in some, but not all, patients with alcoholism. To determine whether genetic polymoprhisms of one or more alchohol-metabolizing enzymes, including alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), alde- hyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), and P450IIE1, are related to alcohol-induced hyperuricemia, we investigated restriction fragment length polymorphisims (RFLPs) of the ADH2, ALDH2, and P450IIE1 genes in 86 men with alcoholism.
