The enantiomerically pure cis-1,2-diol 2, which is obtainednby microbial oxidation of naphthalene, has beennconverted, via a sequence of reactions including oxidativenC–C bond cleavage, decarbonylation and ring-closingnmetathesis steps, into the natural product (u0001)-goniodioln(1).
