Establishing a Preventive Maintenance Method for LCX Based on Analysis of On-board Receiving Signal Level and Ground Electric Field Strength Data

摘要

The train radio for the Tokaido Shinkansen is implemented by leaking radio waves from the LCX that is installed on the ground and receiving the radio waves in the vehicle to establish communication between the wayside and the vehicle. The majority of failures in the train radio is attributed to the LCX and a lot of efforts are devoted to its maintenance. Therefore we have developed a preventive maintenance method that uses the on-board receiving signal level that is measured by the MULTIPLE INSPECTION TRAIN for the SHINKANSEN and the data of the electric field strength on the ground (horizontal polarized wave) to enable us to determine the deterioration of LCX, nondestructively identify the location of damage, and replace/repair the LCX efficiently based on a predefined plan. This article describes the method.
