Asia Pacific mobile operators to invest US$ 331 billion into 5G over 2020-2025 - GSMA

Mobile operators in Asia Pacific are expected to invest US$ 400 billion into their network in 2020-2025, the bulk of which, US$ 331 billion, will go towards deploying 5G, according to the latest study from GSMA. The coronavirus pandemic is expected to have a greater impact on the region because of its focus on 5G, as compared to other areas where the technology has yet to launch. As a result, GSMA has revised its forecast to show that the total number of 5G connections will be almost 20 percent lower this year than previously expected. So far, nine markets in Asia Pacific have launched commercial mobile 5G services, including Japan at the end of March; 12 more countries have announced launch plans.
