Scanning sky and space: AN/SPY-6(V) radar family expands to meet multiple US Navy platform needs

In October 2013 Raytheon was selected by the US Navy (USN) to develop the service's next-generation S-band Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR). Winning out in the face of competition from Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin (the incumbent for the AN/SPY-1 radar family associated with the Aegis combat system from its inception), Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business was tasked by the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) to build a sensor that would integrate with the latest Aegis iteration (Baseline 10) equipping the new DDG 51 Flight Ⅲ guided-missile destroyer.
