Devil in the detail? US seeks to evolve sea-basing concept

US sea-basing plans have been floating around in various forms for some time now, but the latest iteration of the concept to stage forces at sea and conduct operations ashore without nearby land bases in support has recently been granted approval by the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and will now be developed in greater detail as a joint capability. The Joint Chiefs' approval came in early August 2005, when they unanimously approved a sea-basing Joint Integrating Concept (JIC) document prepared by a multiservice integrated product team.
