Spain's fifth and final Alvaro de Bazan-class frigate was launched at Navantia's El Ferrol shipyard on 4 November. Although the planned delivery date of June 2012 puts it more than six years behind ship four, the new vessel - Cristobal Colon (F 105) - features major modifications to the original design. Its construction cost is expected to reach EUR750 million (USD836 million), compared with EUR600 million for the earlier ships.
