Thales awaits outcome of DCNS growth strategy

Thales has indicated that a decision on increasing its stake in DCNS may hinge on the success of the state-controlled French naval group's 'Championship' growth and cost-reduction strategy.rnA 25 per cent stake in DCNS (then DCN) was acquired by Thales in 2007 in exchange for the latter folding the bulk of its naval systems interests into the shipbuilder, thus creating Europe's largest naval construction group. Under the terms of the deal, Thales has until 2012 to exercise an option to expand its holding to 35 per cent. The remaining shares in DCNS are held by the French state, which acted as a match-maker during the partial merger.
