The first of two 27,000-ton fleet replenishment tankers for the Indian Navy is being outfitted following its launch at Fincantieri's Muggiano shipyard in Italy on 12 February.rnDeepak (A 50) entered the water on 12 February, some two months after a steel-cutting ceremony for its sister-ship at the company's Genova-Sestri Ponente yard.rnThe navy issued a request for proposals for a double-hulled tanker (compliant with the latest MARPOL regulations) in November 2005. Fincantieri was selected as preferred bidder early in 2007 and a contract - requiring the ship to be built, fitted out and delivered within 24 months, and also including a logistic support and crew training package - was signed in April 2008. An option for the second vessel was exercised in March 2009.
