The Japan Ministry of Defense (MoD) has proposed the construction of two 19,500-ton 'helicopter-capable destroyers' that would become the largest ships in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).rnAn MoD spokeswoman told Jane's on 8 December that it has submitted a budget request of JPY116.6 billion (USD1.3 billion) for Fiscal Year 2010 for the first of the new helicopter carriers, known as 22 DDH (2010 being the 22nd year of the reign of Japan's Emperor Akihito).
