UCLASS and ACV launch 'speed to the fleet' initiative

The US Navy is mounting a renewed effort to accelerate urgent acquisition programmes under a "speed to the fleet" initiative, a senior official said on 13 April. It will fast-track certain procurements and aims to trim years off the glacial pace of adding new capabilities to the naval service, Sean J Stackley, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, said in a keynote address at the Navy League's Sea-Air-Space 2011 symposium.
