USN completes Spike precision engagement firings from USV

The US Navy (USN) has performed the first live firings of a Rafael Spike long-range (LR) missile from a remotely operated precision engagement module (PEM) developed for unmanned surface vehicle (USV) applications. Performed in late October, the proof-of-concept demonstration is believed to be the first time that the USN has launched a guided weapon from a USV. Combining a Rafael Mk 49 Mod 0 Remote Operated Small Arms Mount (ROSAM) 0.50 calibre machine gun and a dual Spike LR missile pannier, the PEM module has been developed by the Chief of Naval Operations' Expeditionary Warfare Division and the US Naval Sea Systems Command's (NAVSEA's) Special Warfare Program Office.
