The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) held its largest ever exercise on 17 October in the Yellow Sea, with state media reporting the involvement in the exercise of more than 100 surface and submarine vessels from the North and East Sea Fleets, along with more than 30 aircraft, coastal missile troops, and other arms. State media reported that the PLAN test fired new air-to-air, anti-ship, and surface-to-air missiles. The number fired was also allegedly greater than previous exercises. The objective was to conduct joint fleet operations under missile and air attacks, with no pre-planning.
