Israel Shipyards has unveiled its newest and largest warship concept yet, the Saar S-72, an evolution of the Israeli Navy's 62 m Saar 4.5 missile craft. The S-72 is a 72 m, 800-tonne multipurpose design configurable for heavily armed corvette or offshore patrol vessel roles. Depending on the role, missions can include strike and interdiction operations, exclusive economic zone patrolling, search and rescue, and pollution containment. Israeli Shipyards said the S-72 features several improvements on the Saar 4.5, including "a significant upgrade" of combat capabilities, as well as a major improvement in its signatures.
