Building on its proven Sea Sentor solution, Ultra Electronics is advancing the development of a next generation torpedo defence system to counter a new generation of weapons The proliferation among regional navies of ultra-quiet submarines armed with potent heavyweight torpedoes is driving many naval forces to invest in reactive surface ship torpedo defence (SSTD) systems to provide soft-kill protection for high-value naval units. Ultra has supplied a variant of its Sea Sentor system, known as Sonar 2170, to meet the Royal Navy's fleetwide SSTD requirement; a variant has been selected for the Turkish Naval Forces' MILGEM corvette programme.
