Russian ships confirmed transiting north of Australia ahead of G20

Australian ships and aircraft tracked four Russian naval vessels transiting north of Australia in an apparent show of strength prior to the opening of the G20 summit in Brisbane on 14 November. Australia's Department of Defence (DoD) said in a statement on 12 November that the movement of the vessels was "entirely consistent with provisions under international law for military vessels to exercise freedom of navigation in international waters".
