Angola signs with Brazil for seven patrol ships

Angola is understood to have signed an agreement with Brazil on 11 November for the delivery of seven 500-tonne patrol ships, built to the specifications of the Angolan Navy. Build of the vessels will be led by Brazil's state-owned naval project development company EMGEPRON (Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais). The signing of the government-to-government master contract follows the agreement of a technical Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on 5 September in Brasilia by Brazil's Minister of Defence Celso Amorim and his Angolan counterpart Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco. The master contract signing was scheduled to coincide with Angola's Independence Day celebrations.
