FATA MORGANA provides interim sonar processing upgrade

Prior to receiving a new Kongsberg-supplied inboard sonar processing suite as part of the IP-W life extension and capability sustainment programme, two Walrus-class boats are receiving a commercial off-the-shelf-based flank and towed array (FATA) submarine sonar processing system iteratively developed by the TNO research institute. Known as FATA MORGANA, the new standalone processing chain is now being deployed on Walrus and Bruinvis as an interim update ahead of the full IP-W sonar upgrade. The same two boats have also received the Sonar Safety Walrus upgrade under a separate embodiment.
