Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) has rejected suggestions that it may pull out of the race for the German Navy's MKS 180 programme as a result of the acquisition of teammate Blohm+Voss GmbH by the rival Luerssen group. The MKS 180 programme, which covers the build of four multirole combat ships for the German Navy, marks the first time that the German government has thrown a naval shipbuilding programme open to European competition. DSNS has teamed with the Hamburg-based Blohm+Voss shipyard to line up alongside a Thyssen-Krupp Marine Systems/Luerssen team and a pairing of BAE Systems and German Naval Yards Kiel.
