RAN amphibious capability boosted as second LHD is commissioned

Australia's amphibious capability has been boosted by the commissioning in Sydney on 3 December of HMAS Adelaide, the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) second 27,800-tonne landing helicopter dock (LHD) ship. Based on the design of the Spanish Navy strategic projection ship Juan Carlos I, the 231 m Adelaide joins first-of-class LHD HMAS Canberra, which was commissioned into service in November 2014.
