In April the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) ordered its KDX-2-class guided-missile destroyer RoKS Mun mu Dacwang to sail towards the Gulf of Guinea for a hostage rescue mission in Ghana. Three South Korean nationals had been kidnapped the month before in waters off Nigeria, and the destroyer was deployed by Seoul as part of efforts to bring them home.
