Russian Strategic Rocket Forces increases use of conscripts

The Russian Strategic Rocket Forces (SRF) will receive 14,000 conscripts from the spring 2010 call-up that started on 1 April to take it to full strength in enlisted personnel and non-commissioned officers for the first time in many years, writes David C Isby.rnThe Interfax news agency reported on 11 June that some 5,500 SRF conscripts had already been called up and 4,000 had been sent to their units. The SRF is trying to make maximum use of low-cost conscript enlisted personnel in place of higher-cost contract-service personnel, while reducing the number of officers.
