"Russia's sixth missile regiment, equipped with the silo-based RS-12M2 Topol-M (SS-27) intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), has started testing and had begun combat duty," Lieutenant General Sergei Karakayev, commander of the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces (SRF), announced on 17 December, writes David Clsby. It will be assigned, as with the five current Topol-M equipped regiments, to the 60th Missile Division, headquartered at Tatishchevo. Gen Karakayev described the regiment, which consists of the regimental command post and one battalion (with two silos) as being on "experimental alert duty". By the end of 2010, the SRF had a total of 80 operational mobile and silo-based Topol-M ICBMs.
