The aegis bmd 4.0 Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system aboard the US Navy (USN) guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG-70) successfully intercepted a separating ballistic missile target over the Pacific Ocean on 16 May, using a Raytheon Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IB. Based on the SM-3 Block IA currently in service, the SM-3 Block IB incorporates an enhanced two-colour infrared seeker and the Throttleable Divert and Attitude Control System.
