USN looks to integrate IRCPS on Zumwalt-class destroyers

The US Navy's (USN's) Office of Strategic System Programs (SSP) issued a Sources Sought notification to industry on 18 March to determine the optimal approach for integrating the Intermediate Range Conventional Prompt Strike (IRCPS) hypersonic weapon system on Zumwalt-class (DDG 1000) destroyers. According to the notification, the "SSP is currently assessing the means to implement the goals set in the FY21 [fiscal year 2021] National Defense Authorization Act [NDAA] to integrate hypersonic technologies with the Zum-walt Class destroyers." Zumwalt is a class of three USN guided-missile destroyers designed as multimission stealth ships with a focus on land attack. IRCPS is the USN segment of a Department of Defense (DoD) defence-wide initiative to advance research and development of technologies for conventionally armed hypersonic long-range strike weapon systems to support its Prompt Global Strike mission.
