French Training Centre Advances Fibua And Cqb Tactics

The French Army boasts one of the most advanced fighting in built-up areas (FIBUA) training centres in Europe, at the Centre d'Entrainement aux Actions en Zone Urbaine (CENZUB), based at Sissonne, northern France. CENZUB was created to train units at platoon and company level in FIBUA and close-quarter battle (CQB) techniques and tactics, with a secondary role to feed directly into French Army doctrinal development of urban warfare tactics. The CENZUB initiative is built around the Beusejour training village, which was originally constructed in 1982, but by 2004 it was clear to the French Army that the facility would need to be upgraded to allow for urban live fire training. At the same time the army decided to extend the facility, a modest neighbourhood of 63 houses and buildings plus walls and obstructions, with eight live firing ranges and a much larger urban area.
