The CV9040 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) was originally developed to meet the requirements of the Swedish Army but at an early stage what is now BAE Systems Haegglunds noted the potential for export sales, with vehicles tailored to individual users. The starting point was the; basic vehicle armed with a 25 mm M242 Bushmaster cannon, which was part of the early CV90 programme in Sweden but never went past the prototype stage. This was followed by the CV9030 - a modified CV90 IFV chassis fitted with a new two-person turret developed by BAE Systems Hagglunds and armed with a stabilised Alliant Techsystems (ATK) 30 mm Bushmaster II cannon and 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun (MG). The first export customer for the CV9030 Mk I was Norway. Further development led to the Mk II version - in service with Finland and Switzerland - and now the CV9035 Mk III, currently in production for Denmark and the Netherlands.
