US armed forces are set to receive improved 2.75-inch (70 mm) munitions for a range of platforms, with new warheads developed for attack helicopters and the addition of precision guidance capabilities elsewhere.rnA new flechette warhead has been introduced into the 2.75-inch rocket system being used by US Marine Corps' (USMC) AH-1W and UH-1N helicopters operating in Afghanistan.rnDesigned and developed by the Naval Air Systems Command Direct and Time Sensitive Weapons Program Office (PMA-242), the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division and industry partner General Dynamics, the 149 Mod 0 flechette warhead is the first of its type produced by the navy since the Vietnam War era.
