Funding boost fast-tracks arming of US Navy Fire Scout UAVs

The US Navy (USN) plans to have the MQ-8B Fire Scout rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) weaponised within 18 months of gaining additional funds from the US Congress. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) said in April that it has identified BAE Systems' Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) with 70 mm guided semi-active laser (SAL) rockets and Raytheon's special operations Griffin missile as the two weapons planned for its Fire Scout Weap ons Rapid Deployment Capability.
