The vehicles would replace ageing mixed types.rnBAE Systems is aiming to fill a capability gap that may arise before the projected introduction of the US Army's Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) in 2017-18 with a newly upgraded and overhauled family of Bradley vehicle types. Although the Bradley vehicles are set to remain in service for many years and could require upgrades, BAE Systems sees potential for them to replace ageing M113 vehicles in a number of roles within the US Army's Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCTs). BAE Systems US Combat Systems' (USCS') M113 series of tracked vehicles was deployed in larger numbers by the US Army than any other armoured fighting vehicle (AFV), tracked or wheeled (excluding mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles). However, the basic design is more than 50 years old and many of the in-service US Army vehicles are more than 25 years old.
