Australia introduces replacement combat system for Collins submarines

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, working in close conjunction with the USN under the umbrella of a US/Australian Armaments Cooperative Project arrangement, has supplied the AN/BYG-1(V)8 combat control system (previously known by the designation CCS Mk 2 Block 1C Mod 6) to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) to meet the needs of the Collins class Replacement Combat System (RCS) programme. The RCS programme, under Project SEA 1439 Phase 4A, was instigated to replace the original Rockwell (later Boeing Australia) command-and-control system (which had failed to meet its performance requirement).
