In military terms the secret of being able to do a lot with a little is to "be a good integrator", Vice Chief of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Major General Tim Keating told IHS Jane's. At the heart of this capability lies the Royal New Zealand Artillery (RNZA). In total, the NZDF has 13,720 personnel, including civilians. The ready element of its land component is 1 (NZ) Brigade, 3,300-strong and headquartered at Linton on New Zealand's North Island.
