Australia signs for AARGM anti- radiation missile training capability

Australia has taken a significant step forward with plans to acquire a suppression and destruction of enemy air defences capability with the signing of a sales agreement with the US Navy (USN) covering the provision of the AGM-88 High SpeedAnti-Radiation Missile (HARM) and AGM-88E Advanced Anti-Radi- ation Guided Missile (AARGM) training capability. The Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement, signed in May, forms part of a wider deal under which the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is acquiring a fleet of 12 new-build Boeing EA-18G Growler aircraft. According to the Naval Air Systems Command, the FMS case with Australia for an AARGM training capability marks the first sale involving the AGM-88E weapon. Co-developed by the United States and Italy to overcome anti-radiation missile countermeasures fielded since HARM was first deployed in the 19 8 0s, AARGM is an upgraded HARM featuring a digital anti-radiation homing sensor, a millimetric waveband radar terminal seeker, GPS/INS guidance, net-centric connectivity, and Weapon Impact Assessment transmit.
