NATO exercise trials unmanned ASW systems

NATO's 'Proud Manta 2013', the alliance's largest anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise, saw participating states practise co-ordinated ASW and other maritime security tasks, as well as experiment with new autonomous systems. The event took place in the Ionian Sea, off the coast of Sicily, from late February to early March and included personnel, 4 submarines, 17 aircraft, and 10 surface ships provided by Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
