China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) has developed what is believed to be the first tracked engineer vehicle to be developed and deployed by China. In the past China has developed specialised armoured recovery vehicles (ARVs) and armoured vehicle-launched bridges (AVLBs) on a fully tracked ex-main battle tank (MBT) hull. Earlier NORINCO Type 653 series ARVs were based on a modified Type 69 MBT hull while the Type 654 ARVs were based on a more recent MBT hull, which could underpin the new model.
