Thales radar selected for ATL2 upgrade

France's DGA has selected Thales' new Searchmaster mul-tirole surveillance radar to equip the French Navy's 15 Atlantic 2 (ATL2) maritime patrol aircraft set to be upgraded to extend their service life to 2030. Searchmaster uses active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology derived from the company's RBE2 radar for the Rafale, it is promoted as a "5 in 1" multi-role surveillance radar that is able to meet the requirements of five mission sets: anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, maritime surveillance, ground surveillance and tactical air support.
