US Army replacing ATACMS cluster munitions with unitary warheads

Lockheed Martin has received a USD78 million US Army contract to upgrade Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) Anti-Personnel/ Anti-Materiel (APAM) weapons with a unitary warhead as the army continues moving away from unexploded ordnance (UXO). "The programme will take hardware from early production ATACMS Block 1 missiles and develop an enhanced and affordable weapon system capable of eliminating targets without the risk of unexploded ordnance, which meets the US Army's long-range precision strike requirement," Lockheed Martin said in a statement.
