Kosovo Assembly carries government no confidence vote

Kosovo's government was defeated by a vote of no confidence on 2 November, leading interim president Jakup Krasniqi to call early elections for 12 December. Following a marathon debate, the majority of lawmakers in Kosovo's Assembly voted in favour of a no confidence motion against the minority government. Even lawmakers from the governing Democratic Party of Kosovo (Partia Demokratike e Kosovees: PDK) of Prime Minister Hashim Thaci voted in favour of the motion. The motion was supported by 66 MPs in the 120-seat Assembly with one voting against and two abstaining. Deputies from the administrations former coalition partner, the Democratic League of Kosovo (Lidhja Demokratike e Kosoves: LDK), whose withdrawal from government sparked the crisis, did not vote.
