A parcel bomb exploded at Greece's Ministry of Citizens' Protection in Athens on 24 June, killing a senior aide, just metres away from the office of the minister.rnThe explosion, which took place at around 2030 local time (1830 GMT), was so powerful that it brought down the wall between the office of senior aide Giorgos Vassilakis and that of Michalis Chrysochoidis, minister for citizens' protection.rnSome people in the building believed it to be an earthquake. The blast caused serious damage to the offices on the seventh floor of the building, and ministry officials were evacuated. The bomb is thought to have been disguised as a gift of a box of sweets.
