Chinese president Xi Jinping's drive to purge the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of corrupt senior officers appears to be gathering pace. State media have published the names of 14 generals who have either been placed under investigation or "transferred to the military judicial organ" since the start of 2015. This follows the naming of 16 other senior officers in January, with the list including one general, four lieutenant generals, nine major generals, and one senior colonel. The reports state that the investigations are focused on "serious disciplinary violations" or "illegal criminal activities": descriptions normally used for corruption, including giving or accepting bribes, embezzlement, and misuse or misappropriation of military equipment and property.
