New Pentagon missile warning sensor candidates complete first design reviews

Raytheon Technologies and a Northrop Grumman/Ball Aerospace team on 21 May completed the preliminary design reviews (PDRs) for their two candidate Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next-Gen OPIR) Block 0 geosynchronous equatorial orbit (GEO) missile warning satellite sensor payload designs. Raytheon and Northrop Grumman/Ball Aerospace are competitively designing sensors in parallel as mission payload subcontractors to Lockheed Martin. Each team will design, manufacture, assemble, integrate, test, and deliver one mission payload to fly on either of the first two of three planned Next-Gen OPIR Block 0 GEO satellites.
