Indonesia searching for new fighter aircraft after dropping Su-35 acquisition plans

Indonesia is now in the market for a new fighter aircraft after dropping plans to acquire 11 Russian-made Su-35 'Flanker-E' multirole combat aircraft. Speaking to Janes on condition of anonymity, an Indonesian official said on 23 May, "We do not cancel deals, so neither side loses face, but the purchase has collapsed because of the United States' CAATSA [Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act]," which proposes sanctions on Russia's defence customers in response to Moscow's alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election and the annexation of Crimea.
