USNORTHCOM chief worried about cruise missile threat

Cruise missile attacks are one of the United States' biggest threats in North America due to the weapon's worldwide proliferance and a changing Arctic region, according to a senior Pentagon officer. General Terrence O'Shaugh-nessy, US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) chief, said on 22 July that the Pentagon had recently prioritised ballistic missile defence (BMD) and defending against hypersonic weapons for homeland defence. He added, however, that the US is vulnerable to cruise missile attacks across the Arctic as this is an area that the Pentagon has reduced in emphasis over the last few decades.
