The Ecuadorian Ministry of Defence wants to remove up to 95% of land mines along its border with Peru by 2021, according to a newly released strategy that spans 2017-21 (Plan Sectorial de Defensa 2017-2021).During the short-lived 1995 Cenepa War, the two South American countries planted thousands of explosives along their borders. People living in or near 32 border communities, including several indigenous groups, face risks from the mines and are unable to farm on plots of land.
