The Argentine Navy confirmed on 16 July that it is negotiating with the US government regarding the acquisition of four Lockheed P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft (MPAs) to replace the P-3Bs assigned to its 'Naval Air Exploration Squadron'. Interest in the P-3Cs began in 2016 when Argentine naval personnel visited US facilities to inspect airframes that were surplus to US requirements. On 25 June this year during a visit to Argentina Admiral Craig Faller, commander of US Southern Command, said that the aircraft could be made available and negotiations began for the provision of four of them.
